Car Hire Santa Cruz Tenerife | Rentals from €12/day

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the capital of Tenerife and one of the most dynamic cities in the Canary Islands — a port city with a carnival that rivals Rio, a modern auditorium designed by Santiago Calatrava, and a climate that stays mild year-round. It is a city of surprises: a tropical beach in the city centre (Playa de Las Teresitas), a historic old town with colonial architecture, and a food scene that mixes Canarian, African, and Latin American influences. Hiring a car here lets you explore Mount Teide, the laurel forests of Anaga, the beaches of the south coast, and the whale-watching waters of the Atlantic.

We compare Avis, Hertz, Europcar and local operators in Santa Cruz. Compact cars start around €15/day. The city is on the northeast coast of Tenerife.

Why Hire a Car in Santa Cruz

  • Mount Teide: 1 hour southwest. Spain’s highest peak (3,715 metres), a dormant volcano surrounded by a national park of lava fields and unique flora. The cable car takes you to near the summit, and the views of the Canary Islands are spectacular.
  • The Carnival: Santa Cruz hosts one of the largest carnivals in the world, second only to Rio de Janeiro. The streets fill with costumes, music, and dancing for two weeks in February.
  • Playa de Las Teresitas: 15 minutes north. A golden-sand beach imported from the Sahara, with palm trees, calm water, and views of the Anaga Mountains. It is the best city beach in the Canaries.
  • Anaga Rural Park: 30 minutes north. A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of laurel forests, deep ravines, and remote villages. The hiking trails are among the best in the Canaries.
  • La Laguna: 15 minutes northwest. The former capital of Tenerife, a UNESCO World Heritage city with colonial architecture, historic churches, and a university.
  • Puerto de la Cruz: 45 minutes west. The main resort of the north coast, with the Loro Parque (one of the best zoos in Europe), botanical gardens, and a traditional Canarian atmosphere.
  • Whale Watching: The waters between Tenerife and La Gomera are one of the best places in the world to see pilot whales and dolphins. Boat trips depart from Los Cristianos and Puerto Colón.
