What to See and Do in Vlora
Independence Square and Muradie Mosque
The centre of Vlora revolves around the Flag Square (Sheshi i Flamurit), where the declaration of independence was made. The square is dominated by the monument to independence and surrounded by cafes. Nearby, the Muradie Mosque is one of the most beautiful Ottoman buildings in the city, built in the 16th century.

Himar (1.5 hours)
Himar is a small town with a large Greek-speaking minority and a reputation for excellent food. The beach here is more relaxed than Dhermi, and the town has a genuine Mediterranean feel. The coastal road from Dhermi to Himar is spectacular – narrow, winding, and clinging to the cliffs above the sea.
Saranda (3 hours)
The end of the road – literally – Saranda is Albania’s main beach resort and the most developed on the coast. The town has countless hotels, restaurants, and bars, plus ferry connections to Corfu. The drive from Vlora takes you through the most spectacular scenery on the Riviera – allow plenty of time for stops.
